Birds
Every bird has a role in the workings of the Zuni universe. The bird’s ability to travel freely above the earth, migrate over vast distances and occupy an astonishing array of terrestrial habitats make it a powerful symbol of freedom. Birds also provide a link from the human to the divine or supernatural realms. They figure prominently in fetish carvings as well as design motifs in pottery and jewelry.
