Wild Horse Rock Bird, Hummingbird by Steven Natachu
A prominent yellowish cream and reddish maroon streaked wild horse rock hummingbird with turquoise inlaid eyes and gold-lip inlaid beak carved by Steven Natachu. Steven added an inlaid design on the bird's chest in the shape of an oval consisting of bits of apple coral, jet, clam shell and turquoise. The Zuni view the hummingbird as a powerful symbol of rain, fertility, and a bringer of life. According to Zuni and Hopi legends, hummingbirds intervened to help humans by convincing the gods to bring rain during times of drought and famine. As well; the hummingbird is revered by the Zuni - they consider the hummingbird to be a messenger who has the ability to stop time.
