Serpentine Bird, Owl by Melvin Sandoval
A yellowish lime green, muted gold and gray veined serpentine horned owl carved by Melvin Sandoval with its wings outstretched in flight. The salient feature is the tufts above the minutely sunken in eye sockets. The great horned owl is named for the tufts of feathers that sit on top of its head, called plumicorns. The Zuni believe the owl can see what others can not - they assist in helping to root out deception and they can get to the essence of true wisdom. It is common to feel spiritually activated when you see or hear an owl. They are messengers from the spirit realm - bringing wisdom, truth, and understanding of the mysteries of life.
