Septarian Nodule Sea Turtle by Burt Awelagte
A dark olive green, tan and golden sienna veined septarian nodule sea turquosie with round turquoise inlaid eyes with lapis pupils carved by Burt Awelagte. Burt did not incise the scutes on the turtle's shell- rather Burt lets the stone create the pizzaz. Indigenous people recognize the turtle as the symbol of Mother Earth - some Native Americans believe that the turtle contributed to creation because the turtle dove into the primeval waters to retrieve mud to create Mother Earth.
