A duck carved by Darrin Boone with many components. There is a Picasso marble base, a gold-lip face and neck with jet inlaid eyes, a turquoise beak and ring, a jet body and pink mussel shell tail. Darrin has also added a Zuni sun face to the top of the duck's back utilizing bits of clam shell, jet, turquoise and spiny oyster. The Zuni consider ducks to be visual reminders of their deceased ancestors. The sun face is an ancient symbol in Zuni culture, representing the sacred Sun Father. The symbol's round motif depicts the sun with a forehead split down the middle to reflect the eternal balance between sunrise and sunset.
