Sherdine has carved the tail in low relief on the back - ending up near the lion's top right hind leg. There is a lovely offering bundle strapped to the top of the lion with sinew featuring a softer green serpentine arrowhead topped with a small turquoise tear shaped bead surrounded by two smaller apple coral beads. Mount Lemmon is the highest point in the Santa Catalina Mountains and is a geological showcase of metamorphic core complexes and igneous intrusions. For the Zuni, the lion represents the guardian of the north - he is the master hunter, revered for intelligence, prowess and strength of will.
