Pipestone Horned Toad by Andres Lementino
A polished low-to-the-ground pipestone horned toad with turquoise inlaid eyes and snout holes carved by Andres Lementino. Andres had added his signature double Zuni sun face to the center of the toads back utilizing bits of turquoise, apple coral, jet and clam shell. The Sun face is an ancient symbol in Zuni culture, representing the sacred Sun Father. The symbol's round motif depicts the sun with a forehead split down the middle to reflect the eternal balance between sunrise and sunset. The horned toad represents longevity and self-reliance - there's a link in Zuni belief between the horned toad & lightning; deriving from the zigzag spikes & horns found on the head and ridges on the back.
