Antler Six-Directional Figure by Derrick Kaamasee - Zuni Fetish

$ 375.00

A rare cream and prominent gray antler carving by Derrick Kaamasee depicting the six-directional brothers - all with well defined bodies and incised fur and feathers - peaking out of the horn with turquoise and coral inlaid eyes. The eagle at the top is carved in the round - looking up at the viewer with turquoise inlaid eyes. The 6 animals represent the six directions the Zuni revere and the directions they are associated with. So there's a mountain lion that represents the North, a badger for the South, a wolf for the East, a bear for the West, the eagle represents the zenith and the nadir underworld is the domain of the mole. The mole is at the bottom of the carving with the wolf above him, are the two brothers that Derrick has given coral inlaid eyes.
