Antler, Copper, Multistone & Shell Maiden with Corn, Beans & Squash by Raymond Tsalate

$ 1,400.00

A lovely pronounced golden and gray antler maiden with penn shell slit style inlaid eyes, a coral mouth and a Hopi traditional “squash blossom whorl” hairdo, worn by unmarried girls. Carved and delivered to Sunshine by Ray Tsalate, this maiden is titled the 3 Graces for the maiden holds a mother-of-pearl corn cob with copper inlaid stalks, has a gold-lip squash blossom growing near her feet along with copper 'vines', an Afghanistan travertine 'leaf' as well as hammered out copper beans - all inlaid to the horn base. Many tribes call these 3 plants the Three Sisters - they're an important facet of Indigenous culture and food ways. The maiden wears a kilt like a shawl with semi precious stones inlaid all along the outer edge with the manta below it also embellished with lapis inlaid zigzag lines and turquoise dots. On the back of the kilt is a jet, pipestone & gold-lip zigzag outlined butterfly with a turquoise head and coral dots. It depicts an image found on a pot discovered in the Zuni Hawikuh ruins. Maidens represent abundance, fertility and feminine energy.
