Antler Corn Maiden / Kokoshi by Troy Sice - Zuni Fetish

$ 4,000.00

An antler carved corn maiden Kokoshi rain dancer Katchina - notice the bearded mask that she wears with the 'mouth' representing the rainbow - inlaid with bits of turquoise, coral and mother-of-pearl. Troy says this carving depicts the maiden's spirit self with her life form. The corn maiden is the life form and the spirit self is the Kokoshi. This maiden was in the SWAIA 2018 Indian Art Market. She has incised corn rows in front and an outstanding shawl on the back inlaid with a rain cloud utilizing bits of turquoise, spiny oyster, gold-lip, penn shell, jet & mother-of-pearl. There's an inlaid band under the cloud as well as incised burnished feathers. We love the new addition of incised hands on the corn maiden - suggesting the maternal giving nature of the corn maiden; who gives up her life so that we can all live.
