Derrick Kaamasee
Jet Bird, Raven by Derrick Kaamasee
A large jet raven with turquoise inlaid eyes carved by Derrick Kaamasee making its signature call described as a “caw”. There are incised lines all over the body describing the feathers and Derrick has even added a tongue! We have been told a raven doesn't have to be a bad omen. The Zuni artists say the ravens are filters and they are messengers of the great mystery; so they represent a change in consciousness - all good! Most carvers will also tell you the big jet black birds seen in New Mexico are crows though, not ravens.
