Sugar Marble Bird, Eagle With Maiden by Faye Quandelacy

$ 72.00

A polished hand hold size sugar marble eagle with jet inlaid eyes carved by Faye Quandelacy protecting the maiden, carved near the base with a turquoise inlaid face. This carving depicts in stone the time the Zuni tribe was saved from a flood. This is a signature carving for Faye who has incised feathers all over the eagle's body. Faye has also inlaid a lapis, turquoise, jet and apple coral Zuni sun sign onto the eagle's chest. The Sun face is an ancient symbol in Zuni culture, representing the sacred Sun Father. The symbol's round motif depicts the Sun with a forehead split down the middle to reflect the eternal balance between sunrise and sunset. To the Zuni, the Sunface represents prosperity, happiness, peace, hope, optimism, and positive energy.
