Gold-Lip Mother-of-Pearl Bird, Eagle with Corn Maidens and Mole by Jeff Shetima

$ 800.00

A magnificent gold-lip, mother-of-pearl eagle carved with its wings outstretched enabling two corn maidens to rest inside them - thanks to the brilliant workmanship of Jeff Shetima. Jeff has also carved a small mole in good relief near the Picasso marble base / arrowhead - quite a show stopper! The Zuni believe the creator made the eagle to be a teacher for mankind - the eagle is the guardian & master of the sky - revered for its power, strength & dynamic grace. The maiden symbolizes abundance, fertility and feminine energy & the corn maiden is venerated in Zuni for giving up her life for the health of the community. Finally, moles share a connection with the energies of the earth, have knowledge of herbs, roots, minerals, seeds and rivers, are sensitive to touch & vibration and remind us all to turn inwards - allowing for introspection and awareness of the subtle energies & influences that shape our lives. There is consequently lots to see and lots of meaning in this shimmering carving that we received in late February of 2021 in Albuquerque at a safe distance.
