Picasso Marble Eagle Protecting The Maiden by Faye Quandelacy

$ 75.00

A brown, gray and black veined Picasso marble eagle with turquoise inlaid eyes carved by Faye Quandelacy protecting a maiden - carved in good relief, enfolded between the eagle's wings. Faye has inlaid a small turquoise, apple coral, clam and jet Zuni sun face to the back of the eagle. This carving depicts in stone the time the Zuni tribe was saved from a flood. This is a signature carving for Faye who has painstakingly incised feathers all over the eagle's body. The pronounced scale of the eagle over the maiden suggests the power of protection the eagle has. The maiden symbolizes abundance, fertility and feminine energy and the sun face is an ancient symbol in Zuni culture, representing the sacred Sun Father.
