Black Marble Bird, Eagle by Hiram Peynetsa

$ 500.00

Our fifth black marble eagle with turquoise* inlaid eyes, carved in flight by Hiram Peynetsa. This gorgeous eagle soars, thanks to a small base carved from the same stone. The new element is the 2 incised, unpolished feathers, that crisscross near the center of the tail - with a turquoise, coral, jet and clam shell Zuni sun face inlaid at their juncture. The Sun face is an ancient symbol in Zuni culture, representing the sacred Sun Father. The symbol's round motif depicts the Sun with a forehead split down the middle to reflect the eternal balance between sunrise and sunset. To the Zuni, the Sun face represents prosperity, happiness, peace, hope, optimism, and positive energy. The eagle is one of the six animals venerated by the Zuni. The eagle is the prey God of the sky - the celestial heavens. The Zuni believe the creator made the eagle to be a teacher for mankind - and due to their ability to fly the highest; they can send our prayers to the great divine.
