Antler Six-Directional Jar by Robert Michael Weahkee - Zuni Fetish

$ 250.00

A small six-directional pot created by Robert Michael Weahkee that is painted black then encrusted with turquoise chips. The six animals are all carved in antler and represent the six directions the Zuni revere and the directions they are associated with. The mountain lion represents the North and is strapped to the pot with heavy grade sinew facing the badger; the prey God of the South. The wolf is the prey God of the East, and faces the bear who is the prey God of the West. The eagle is the prey God of the celestial heavens and the mole is left to put inside of the jar and he represents the underworld. The animals all have turquoise inlaid eyes and an arrowhead that represents their traditional directional color. NOTE: Robert does not make the ceramic pot though we believe it is made by an artist from Zuni. Also note that you can see some of the black color of the pot through the turquoise.
