Serpentine Butterfly Maiden by Andres Lementino

$ 300.00

A sage & olive green veined serpentine butterfly maiden carved by Andres Lementino with a clam & gold-lip inlaid face, jet inlaid features carved carrying a Zuni prayer bowl full of turquoise and coral bits that symbolize water. Andres's signature double Zuni sun face is inlaid on both sides of the butterfly's wings. The Sun face is an ancient symbol in Zuni culture, representing the sacred Sun Father. The symbol's round motif depicts the Sun with a forehead split down the middle to reflect the eternal balance between sunrise and sunset. To the Zuni, the Sunface represents prosperity, happiness, peace, hope, optimism, and positive energy. There are other embellishments - like turquoise and coral earrings, triangular shapes inlaid with turquoise, apple coral and gold-lip - at the bottom of the maiden's manta; symbolizing rain. There are also jet, turquoise, apple coral and clam shell abstract clouds inlaid at the bottom of each wing. This is quite a lovely maiden, ya'll.
