Kateri Sanchez
Labradorite Bird, Horned Owl by Kateri Sanchez
A small labradorite horned owl carved by Kateri Sanchez with gold-lip and jet inlaid eyes and incised lines radiating all around them. Kateri has also incised lines in the shape of arcs all over the bird's body to simulate the feathers with diagonal lines incised running diagonally near the wing tips. The great horned owl is named for the tufts of feathers that sit on top of its head, called plumicorns. The Zuni believe the owl can see what others can not - they assist in helping to root out deception and they can get to the essence of true wisdom. Owls are messengers from the spirit realm - bringing wisdom, truth, and understanding of the mysteries of life.
