Georgette Quam
Dolomite Frog by Georgette Quam
A muted pink, orange and red sienna veined dolomite frog with big get inlaid eyes carved by Dan Poncho. Dan has added nineteen dots to the top of the frog's back. We have been told for some artists, the dots represent rain drops but for others - it symbolized the spots found on the frog's body. Frogs are the result of water so are associated with the prominence of rain and are used to encourage the growth of crops. Zuni believe the frog is a reminder that we are all the same - development wise - we begin as tiny fishlike creatures in the womb then we evolve from swimmers to creatures of the land. The frogs sings its song reminding us of our watery beginning.
