Calcite Maiden Figure by Rhoda Quam, Deceased - Zuni Fetish
A cream and yellow ocher calcite maiden figure carved by the now deceased Rhoda Quam. There are fourteen maidens - seven on each side, featuring two turquoise faced corn maidens and all the maidens carry olla watering jars on top of their heads. The faces are inlaid with apple coral, orange spiny oyster, turquoise, abalone and gaspeite - all fourteen have jet inlaid features. Turquoise, coral, green serpentine, lapis and jet dots embellish the figures - creating sashes, pendants and corn kernels. The maiden symbolizes abundance, fertility and feminine energy.
